Our entire lives are controlled by the box we call our mind. 

Your mind gives meaning to everything in your life and those meanings create your emotions. Just think about it. Take the example of your partner being late for dinner. In such a situation, your emotions will be determined by the meaning you attach to it. When you believe that he or she is late because they don’t care or disrespect you, you will get angry. However, if you think something might have happened, you will get worried. Two completely different emotions for the same situation.

Where we live emotionally determines the quality of our lives. And where we live emotionally is not based on who we are, it is based on the pattern of our beliefs, values, and the way we communicate with ourselves. 

The words we attached to our experience become our experience!  If you tell yourself every day that you’re depressed, you’ll end up depressed. Choose your words carefully, because they are actually tools for programming yourself, or programming your mind.

And your mind is a meaning maker. That’s all where the meaning of your life comes from.

Meaning creates emotion and emotion creates your life. The quality of your life is determined by the quality of your emotions. If you have 1 million dollars and your dominant emotions are pissed off and frustrated, then the quality of your life is not 1 million dollars – it’s pissed off and frustrated. 

Your dominant emotions will define your emotional home. It’s where you habitually go with your emotions.

Think about it — what kind of emotions do you experience when something wonderful happens? Sure, you will feel happy and excited, but perhaps you will also feel anxious about what might go wrong. Alternatively, you might feel fearful when something doesn’t go your way, causing you to get frustrated and that will be your dominant emotion, your emotional home.

And remember, if you’re happy or sad, it’s based on the meaning you’ve created. If you are angry or blissful, it comes from meaning. If you’re wounded or empowered, it’s the meaning. The meanings you create – and the emotions you feel as a result – are the twin forces that you alone control.
